Police Situational Judgment Writing Ability Test

The Situational Judgment Test with Writing Ability (SJWAT) is a content-valid written exam that combines two of the most critical skills required for police officer success: the ability to exercise sound judgment in real-world scenarios and the ability to communicate clearly in writing. This test evaluates how candidates respond to the types of interpersonal and decision-making challenges they will face on the job, while also measuring their proficiency in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure to ensure accuracy and professionalism in reports, tickets, and other documentation.

By integrating these competencies, the SJWAT provides agencies with a balanced assessment that predicts performance both in the field and in the written responsibilities of policing. The SJWAT is available in paper-and-pencil format.
